Freedom Stations

The Freedom Stations Program is a national outreach program linking historic Underground Railroad sites, research centers, university library collections, and museums engaged in Underground Railroad and slavery era research, historic preservation through the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.

Goals & activities of the Freedom Stations Program (FSP) include:

  • Providing technical assistance in the preservation and interpretation of the places: historic sites and routes which are part of the story of the Underground Railroad and American slavery.
  • Convening an annual national conference of researchers and programmers regionally, nationally or internationally.
  • Recognize and delivering access online to the scholarship on the Underground Railroad and American slavery by Freedom Station affiliates.

These activities are a direct and necessary main link between the national offices at the Freedom Center to FSP Affiliates. A major strength of the program is its ability to connect with and create a national platform for furthering the advancement of freedom. In so doing, FSP supports our dedication to using the lessons of the Underground Railroad to teach, inspire and share the lessons of courage, cooperation and perseverance and thereby furthering the mandate of the Center's mission.
